There is a season for both, BUT security is rarely inspiring, and following inspiration is seldom secure.
I have always been best served by the inspired path. It comes with elevated risk, but it need not be reckless. Security is closely tied to stagnation. Sometimes, security is the best choice, but when there is an opening to follow your heart, stick to your values, and take some risk, that is (as my wife clearly puts it) “the adult thing to do.”
A path can feel stagnant to one person and full of opportunity for another. If you are on the secure path, notably if you own “the path”, it is your responsibility to pass the torch to keep the flame going for those more committed.
I have seen many great friends pass the torch and enter their new unknown over the past few years and months. You know who you are, and I thank you for the inspiration. Today, I will draft their courage and make a small move to abandon the easy and spark a new flame.
